An AAU club membership is for organizations or teams that want to participate in or host AAU-licensed events. To join, the club’s representatives or contacts must first hold active AAU Non-Athlete Memberships with completed background screenings. There are six club types: Standard A, B, and C, plus Non-Profit Tiers 1, 2, and 3.
To purchase an AAU club membership, all representatives or contacts listed on the application must first hold active AAU Non-Athlete Memberships.
The AAU membership year runs from September 1 to August 31, and club memberships are not renewable, requiring a new application each year.
AAU membership is mandatory for participation in all AAU-licensed events. Clubs can choose from six membership levels—Standard A, B, C, and Non-Profit Tiers 1, 2, or 3—each offering varying benefits, such as eligibility to participate in over 45 sports at local, regional, and national levels, hosting events, voting rights at district meetings (select levels), and access to multi-million dollar liability insurance and practice insurance certificates.
Any club hosting an AAU-licensed event other than practice must join at Level B or C.
Once a club has joined, no refunds are issued, and the use of “AAU” or any variation in the club’s legal name is prohibited.
To start a club, purchase the required AAU Non-Athlete Memberships for club contacts and complete background screening to obtain AAU membership IDs. Then, purchase the club membership using these IDs to receive your club code, which should be shared with parents so they can register their athletes under the club.
Clubs can print their Verification of Insurance or request a Certificate of Insurance to secure practice facilities.
All accepted club memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable.
